Citiesreview 14: “Forest Lost, Carbon Released” Spatial Analysis of Carbon Stock Amid Land Use Change in Jombang Regency explores the impact of land use conversion on carbon stock dynamics between 2017 and 2024. Using remote sensing and GIS-based analysis, the study highlights how the transformation of forest and plantation areas into built-up land, tourism zones, and intensive agriculture has significantly reduced the region’s carbon storage capacity. The findings show a net decrease of over 3 million tons of carbon stock, emphasizing the critical role of vegetated land in maintaining ecological balance and mitigating climate change.
