Community-Based Environmental Planning – Kampung Cikeas, Bogor
Citieslab conducted the environmental planning study of Kampung Cikeas, located in RT 01 and RT 02, RW 03, Katulampa, Bogor, by applying a Planning Charrette approach to ensure active community participation in shaping sustainable environmental strategies. Through collaborative workshops and participatory discussions, residents, local stakeholders, and planners worked together to identify key environmental, social, and economic challenges. This process enabled the integration of local knowledge into planning, revealing critical issues such as limited access to clean water, inadequate drainage and wastewater infrastructure, insufficient waste management facilities, and high building density that increases disaster risk.
The Planning Charrette also created a platform for residents to explore local economic and social opportunities, including the development of community-based businesses, skill training for youth, and the strengthening of local environmental stewardship. The outcomes of this collaborative process informed a set of community-driven strategies focused on improving basic infrastructure, expanding communal wastewater systems, strengthening waste management, and supporting local economic empowerment. By positioning residents as co-creators of solutions, the charrette approach fostered local ownership and produced an inclusive, actionable roadmap to transform Kampung Cikeas into a cleaner, more resilient, and sustainable urban community.
