Community Empowerment Study for Thematic Urban Village Development – Kampung Parung Banteng
Citieslab supported the Bogor City Government in formulating a community empowerment framework for Kampung Parung Banteng, located in Katulampa Urban Village, East Bogor. The study aimed to develop a thematic urban village model that integrates environmental resilience, social inclusion, and local economic empowerment through a participatory Community Action Plan approach. In this process, residents were positioned as the primary actors in planning and decision-making. Participatory surveys were conducted together with the community to map the physical, social, and economic conditions of the neighborhood, ensuring that local knowledge and perspectives were fully reflected in the analysis.
The initial findings were further developed through Planning Charrette sessions, where residents collaboratively identified key issues, local potentials, and development priorities. These discussions highlighted opportunities such as utilizing the clean and high-flow river for aquaponic cultivation, addressing the lack of public facilities such as parks, sports areas, and community spaces, and overcoming limited land availability through shared-use and collaborative space strategies. The study resulted in a participatory thematic village development concept that strengthens local identity while integrating social, economic, and environmental interventions. This approach ensures that future development aligns with community needs, fosters local ownership, and supports sustainable and inclusive neighborhood transformation.
